Philippians 4:13 Bible Verse Commentary
This verse serves to remind people that they are not strong creatures, at least not by themselves. While Christianity may emphasize reliance upon God for strength, it remains true that most people can not do everything that they wish they could without calling upon the aid of others. God, or the deity in general, is the ultimate source of strength and easily tapped by anyone who has the faith to rely upon him. The main sacrifice involved in this reliance is in admitting that we, as individuals, do not have the strength on our own to accomplish the task at hand.
Philippians 4:13: "I can do all this through him who gives me strength."
In the modern world this verse might be taken more to heart in a spirit
of brotherhood. The globalization of the world means that neighbors must
rely upon each other more and more to progress. Not just nations and
economies benefit from this interaction, but the human race itself needs
the ability to rely on the strength of its fellows. To be able to
follow this bit of biblical philosophy and admit that our strength comes
from a source greater than us, namely the people standing next to us,
could promote this cooperation and lead us to accomplish great things.
